Blog carnival & award banners are typically 125×125 pixels or similar sizes to fit in blog sidebars. If you are running a series of any sort and want to advertise it, a blog carnival banner is a good way to spread the word. These are good for giveaways series as well. 125×175 is a good size for these types of banners so they stand out from the typical sidebar button.
